The East Central Community College Workforce Development Center will offer courses in Conversational Spanish and Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification at the Carthage Career Advancement Center beginning in August.

Conversational Spanish begins Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, and will meet from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for six consecutive weeks. Martha Metcalf will serve as instructor. The cost is $50 per person. This beginner course is designed to develop a student’s basic conversational skills and grammar structure necessary for speaking the language. Additionally, this course will build and increase functional vocabulary for professionals in healthcare, law enforcement, education, legal/court business and industries.

Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification is a 15-week course, which will meet from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays beginning Monday, Aug. 21, 2017. Robert Kilpatrick will serve as instructor and the cost is $75 per person. This course is designed to prepare students to have a successful career in a high-performance manufacturing environment. Topics covered will include Basic Computer Blueprint Reading, Precision Measurement, Introduction to High Performance Manufacturing, OSHA 10 and CPR. To participate in the class, students must score a Silver Level on the WorkKeys assessment.
