East Central Tennis Teams Drop 5-4 Matches to Jones

Four nationally ranked tennis teams hit the courts at the ECCC Tennis Complex Tuesday, March 10, with the men’s and women’s teams from Jones College each claiming 5-4 wins over the teams from East Central Community College.

With the losses, the No. 20 ranked ECCC Lady Warriors are now 8-4 on the season and the Warriors are 7-5. The No. 19 Jones Lady Bobcats remain undefeated at 11-0, while the No. 20 Bobcats improve to 11-2.

Women’s Doubles Results:
JC’s Bella Chela and Judith Mills defeated EC’s Natalia Beltran (Bogota, Colombia) and Alejandra Vargas (Bogota, Colombia), 8-4; EC’s Josie Hurst (Newton County) and Ali Grace Walker (Newton County) defeated JC’s Danielle Viljoen and Dixie Lei Hodges, 9-7; and JC’s Brooke Chism and Stori Endt defeated EC’s Kayla Baucum (Newton County) and Marla Graham (Newton County Academy), 8-1.

Women’s Singles Results:
EC’s Beltran defeated JC’s Chela, 3-6, 6-4 (10-1); JC’s Viljoen defeated EC’s Vargas 6-0, 6-2; EC’s Walker defeated JC’s Mills, 1-6, 6-4 (10-6); JC’s Hodges defeated JC’s Hurst, 1-6, 7-6 (10-7); JC’s Chism defeated EC’s Baucum, 6-1, 6-4; and EC’s Graham defeated JC’s Endt, 6-4, 6-4

Men’s Doubles Results:
EC’s Chris Lawrance (York, Western Australia) and Isaac Santitto (Innisfail, Queensland, Australia) defeated JC’s Kwanda Mbalekwa and Jacob Johnson, 8-6; EC’s Dylan Barnett (Newton County) and Peyton Chaney (Newton County) defeated JC’s Daniel Panzica and James McWilliams, 8-5; and JC’s Gasper Meda and Trey Hilton defeated EC’s Dominick Donaldson (Florence) and Chris Albert (Vicksburg, St. Aloysius), 8-3.

Men’s Singles Results:
EC’s Lawrance defeated JC’s Meda, 6-3, 6-7 (10-8); JC’s Mbalekwa defeated EC’s Santitto, 6-3, 3-6 (11-9); JC’s Panzica defeated EC’s Barnett, 6-4, 6-1; EC’s Chaney defeated JC’s Johnson, 1-6, 6-4 (10-6); JC’s Hilton defeated EC’s Albert, 6-2, 6-2; and JC’s McWilliams defeated EC’s Donaldson, 6-1, 6-2.

The East Central teams will play their next two matches on the road, starting with Gulf Coast at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 13, and then at Meridian at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, following a week off for Spring Break.
