Several East Central Community College students won top honors in the Collegiate Division at the DECA State Career Development Conference held Feb. 17-18 at the Natchez Convention Center.

The students now advance to compete at the DECA International Career Development Conference April 9-12 in Baltimore, Md.

ECCC students receiving honors included:

  • Zully Reyes Garcia of Morton and Alexis Jackson of Morton, first place, Business-to-Business Marketing Team Case Study.
  • Anslee Boyd of Morton and Karlie Jackson of Conehatta, first place, Event Planning Team Case Study.
  • Michael Hurley of Union and Alex Sharp of Philadelphia, second place, Business Ethics Team Case Study.

In addition, Sharp was also selected the new president of the State’s DECA Collegiate Division for the 2022-23 year.

DECA is an international association of high school and college students and teachers of marketing, management and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality, and marketing sales and service. The organization prepares leaders and entrepreneurs for careers and education in marketing, finance, hospitality, management, and other business areas.

ECCC instructors Wanda Hurley, Ruth Gregory and Barry Karrh serve as advisors.
