Kadence Chapman, a 19-year-old resident who recently withdrew from college, found her path to a fulfilling career through the South Mississippi Planning and Development District's (SMPDD) WIOA Youth program. Previously uncertain about her future, Chapman, a bright and motivated individual, seized the opportunity to enhance her job skills and explore potential career interests.

Having only held a part-time job before, Chapman was determined to develop her professional abilities. Upon learning about the SMPDD WIOA Youth program through a relative, she promptly enrolled in the program, eager to redefine her career aspirations.

During the training period, Chapman discovered a passion for journalism. Recognizing her interests, her career coach worked diligently to secure an internship placement that aligned with Chapman’s new-found interests. She was selected to intern at the Newton County Appeal, a reputable local newspaper dedicated to serving the community.

Throughout her internship, Chapman actively contributed to the newspaper by writing articles and participating in information-gathering sessions. Her experiences at the Newton County Appeal have not only enhanced her journalistic skills but also provided valuable insights into the workings of a local newspaper.

Reflecting on her training, Chapman emphasized the importance of time management and responsibility in preparing for the workforce. She commended the career coach for their efforts in finding an internship that resonated with her career interests, making her overall experience with the program immensely rewarding.

Chapman encourages individuals seeking career development opportunities to explore the SMPDD WIOA Youth program. She expressed enthusiasm about continuing her internship at the local newspaper and is now considering a future in journalism as a potential career path.
