The EMT course was established at East Central Community College in 2002 in response to the growing demand for emergency medical technicians throughout the district and state.
The goal of the East Central Community College is to prepare competent entry-level Emergency Medical Technician in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, there were 210,000 jobs for EMTs with demand expected to grow until the year 2016.
A career as a basic emergency medical technician is an exciting, fast paced adventure with constant challenges, demands, and rewards. Students who successfully complete the program will be eligible to apply for a seat in the National Registry's Exam as a Basic EMT, which is a requirement for certification in the state of Mississippi.
