ECCC Warrior Soccer Shuts Out Meridian in Season Opener

The East Central Community College men’s soccer team opened its 2017 season in a strong way with a 5-0 shutout of Meridian Community College in a match played in Meridian Friday, Aug. 25.

It was the third straight match the Warriors have held an opponent scoreless after two shutout wins in the exhibition pre-season.

Dylan Shoemaker out of Forest High School got the win in goal.

ECCC’s Annual Meet the Warriors Pep Rally for Fall Sports is Aug. 28

The public is invited to “Meet the Warriors” when East Central Community College hosts the annual pep rally and student-athlete introductions event scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 28, at Bailey Stadium on the Decatur campus.

Members of ECCC’s football, men’s golf, and men’s and women’s soccer teams will be introduced by their coaches.

Performing groups include the Wall O’ Sound Marching Band, Centralettes dance line, and Warrior cheerleading squad.

ECCC President Dr. Billy Stewart will also speak.

Two-Time NCAA National Championship-Winning Soccer Coach to Present Clinic at ECCC

Randy Waldrum, who won more than 475 matches and two NCAA Division I National Championships as a college soccer coach, will present a Coaches Clinic, Saturday, Aug. 12, at East Central Community College in Decatur.

The clinic will be held at the ECCC Soccer Complex on the north end of campus. The cost for soccer coaches to participate is $50.

ECCC Announces 2017 Football Schedule

Coming off its first Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges South Division title in program history, the East Central Community College football team will play five road games in 2017, including the first two games of the season.

The Warriors finished the 2016 season with a 5-5 overall record, including a South Division title and second straight trip to the state playoffs. It was the first time in 40 years that the Warriors competed in the state playoffs in consecutive seasons. 

ECCC Softball Players Earn Postseason Recognition

Six freshmen and one sophomore who helped the East Central Community College Lady Diamond Warrior Softball team to postseason play during the 2017 season were recognized recently for their efforts.

Freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Oswalt out of Heritage Academy in Columbus was named National Junior College Athletic Association All-Region 23. Oswalt posted a 22-5 record in the circle with three saves and 108 strikeouts.
