A Tale of Two Teams for 2017-18 ECCC Basketball: Youth vs. Experience

The East Central Community College basketball teams are prepared to hit the hardwood for the 2017-18 season with a mix of youth and experience, and with expectations to be playing in the postseason come late February.

The Lady Warriors and Warriors open their 23-game seasons Thursday, Nov. 2, at home against Coahoma Community College. The women will tip off at 5:30 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m. from Brackeen-Wood Gym on the campus in Decatur. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students.

ECCC to Host 3rd Annual High School All-Star Basketball Contest

East Central Community College will host the third annual East Central Mississippi High School All-Star Basketball Games Thursday, April 13, in the Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium on the Decatur campus.

The women’s contest begins at 6 p.m. and will be followed by the men’s match-up at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students.

Participants are divided into North and South teams, based on the location of their schools.

Lady Warrior Basketball Falls to Jones in the Region 23 Tourney

The East Central Community College women’s basketball team held the MACJC state champions, No. 14 nationally ranked Jones County Junior College, close for most of the game before falling 96-70 in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament Tuesday, March 7, on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton.

ECCC only trailed Jones 20-15 after the first quarter and were able to take the lead when Shantavis Hughes of Hattiesburg High School sank a long three-pointer to go up 22-21 with 6:29 left in the first half.

East Central Lady Warrior Basketball Loses Heartbreaker to Hinds

The East Central Community College Lady Warrior basketball team fell 81-78 in a heartbreaker against the Hinds Community College Lady Bulldogs Thursday, Feb. 23, in a packed out Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium on “Sophomore Night” in Decatur.

ECCC jumped out to an early lead in the first half, going up by as many as 13 points in the second quarter, but a Hinds’ rally gave the Lady Bulldogs a 43-42 lead at the intermission.
