Jeffery Sorey of Huntington, Texas,  is the new assistant band director at East Central Community College in Decatur and will assume his new duties on July 1, 2017.

Several East Central Community College student-athletes received state and national recognition for academic performance during the 2016-17 academic year on the Decatur campus.

In all, 50 ECCC student-athletes were recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association, the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges, or both organizations.

East Central Community College’s Small Business Development Center will offer a free seminar on “How to Develop a Business Plan” from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Monday, July 24, 2017, at the Workforce Development Center on the Decatur campus.

Course topics include industry research, description of company products and services, identifying target customer groups, marketing plans, startup costs and preparation of a projected cash flow statement.

East Central Community College’s Small Business Development Center will offer a free seminar on “First Steps-The Process of Starting a Small Business” from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at the Workforce Development Center on the Decatur campus.

This seminar outlines the basic steps to start a business. Topics include financial projections, collateral, personal financial statements, business loan application and other frequently asked questions.

Thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends, the East Central Community College Foundation will be able to award additional scholarship monies to deserving students during the fall 2017 semester.

New and transfer students planning to attend East Central Community College in fall 2017 can now take advantage of weekday “Walk-In” Orientation sessions on the Decatur campus.

Walk-In Orientation is available beginning June 12 Mondays through Thursdays from either 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The college will be closed on July 4 for the Independence Day holiday. Fall 2017 classes begin on Monday, Aug. 14.

Because of expected inclement weather, the Warrior Elite Football Camp scheduled for Monday, June 5, has been postponed until Wednesday, June 7.

Instructional counselors from East Central Community College in Decatur will be visiting four locations in the college’s five-county district this summer to assist students with fall 2017 course registration.

Also on hand will be ECCC student recruiters to provide information for prospective students, as well as the college’s Warrior Wellness coordinator with free, healthy snacks and drinks.
