East Central Community College students returned to classes Aug. 14 for the fall 2017 semester and were greeted by a major renovation to the Mabry Memorial Cafeteria on the Decatur campus.

August 21, 2017

A much-anticipated project to place the majority of the overhead utility lines at East Central Community College underground is underway on the campus in Decatur.

All above-ground electrical, telephone, fiber optic, and other utility lines are being placed underground from Broad Street on the front of campus to 10th Street on the north side of campus.

Work began in June, and the timeline calls for the project to be completed by December 2017.

The public is invited to “Meet the Warriors” when East Central Community College hosts the annual pep rally and student-athlete introductions event scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 28, at Bailey Stadium on the Decatur campus.

Members of ECCC’s football, men’s golf, and men’s and women’s soccer teams will be introduced by their coaches.

Performing groups include the Wall O’ Sound Marching Band, Centralettes dance line, and Warrior cheerleading squad.

ECCC President Dr. Billy Stewart will also speak.

The East Central Community College Workforce Development Center will offer “Technology for Teachers” beginning Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at the Philadelphia/Neshoba County Career-Technical Center.

The course will cover various topics related to enhancement of technology available to teachers within the classroom, including mail merge, Engrade, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, educational apps and teacher tube.

The East Central Community College Small Business Development Center will offer a free seminar titled “Understanding Business Financials” at the Neshoba Business Enterprise Center in Philadelphia Monday, Sept. 25, 2017.

The class will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and Ronnie Westbrook, director of the Small Business Development Center, will serve as facilitator.

During this seminar, participants will learn to read, analyze and create financial statements.

The East Central Community College Small Business Development Center will offer a free seminar titled “First Steps-The Process of Starting a Small Business” at the Carthage Career Advancement Center Monday, Sept. 11, 2017.

The class will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and Ronnie Westbrook, director of the Small Business Development Center, will serve as facilitator.

East Central Community College in Decatur is preparing to open a Career Advance Center in the city of Forest to serve the residents of Scott County through high school equivalency, adult basic education, and workforce training classes.

It will be ECCC’s first Career Advancement Center in Scott County and gives the college a presence in all five counties it serves.

August 9, 2017

The East Central Community College Warriors open the regular season on the road Aug. 31 looking to make the state playoffs for the third straight year. Something that’s never been done on the Decatur campus.
