The East Central Community College Board of Trustees this week approved the college’s 2017-18 budget plan aimed at offsetting a $1.04 million reduction in state appropriations for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins July 1, 2017.

The budget plan, which includes expenditure reductions and revenue increases, was approved at the board’s May meeting held on the Decatur campus.

With a sweep over Mississippi Delta Community College May 10 and May 11 in a best-of-three playoff series, the East Central Community College baseball team advances to the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 Tournament May 17-20 on the campus of Jones County Junior College in Ellisville.

The Diamond Warriors picked up two run-rule victories over the Trojans in the series. ECCC won game one 10-2 and game two with a 16-7 win at the Clark-Gay Baseball Complex in Decatur.

East Central Community College student Alaina Barrier of Philadelphia earned a Silver Medal for being the highest ranked role play competitor in the Fast Food and Restaurant Service Management competition at the DECA International Career Development Conference held last month in Anaheim, Calif.

The East Central Community College baseball will host Mississippi Delta Community College in a best two-of-three National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 first round playoff series Wednesday and Thursday, May 10-11, at the Clark-Gay Baseball Complex in Decatur.

Game one of the NJCAA Region 23 series will be Wednesday, May 10, at 6 p.m. Game two is scheduled for Thursday, May 11, at 2 p.m. Game three, if necessary, will follow on Thursday.

The No. 8 nationally ranked East Central Community College softball team fell short in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges State Tournament after dropping consecutive games to No. 1 ranked Jones County Junior College and No. 6 ranked Itawamba Community College. The double elimination tournament was held on the campus of Jones County in Ellisville.

East Central Community College will hold an Open House for students interested in enrolling in its MI-BEST program for fall 2017 beginning at Noon on Monday, June 12.

The event will be held in the Tucker Applied Technology Center on the Decatur campus.
