ECCC Tennis Complex to Temporarily Close for Surface Work

The new Tennis Complex at East Central Community College in Decatur will temporarily close beginning Friday evening, March 10, while new logos are applied to the playing surfaces.

The courts, located on the north end of campus between the softball and baseball complexes, will reopen on Monday, March 20.

Local tennis players are invited to use the old ECCC tennis courts during that time. Those courts are located on North 6th Avenue adjacent to the Vickers Fine Arts Center.

Warrior Basketball Eliminated from Region 23 by Northeast

The East Central Community College men’s basketball team could not hold on to an early lead against Northeast Mississippi Community College and was eliminated from the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament 70-64 March 8 at Mississippi College in Clinton.

Northeast, the defending NJCAA Region 23 champions, also defeated the Warriors in last week’s MACJC State Tournament.

The Warriors never trailed in the first half, leading by as many as 13 points. East Central took a 38-31 lead into the locker room.

Lady Warrior Basketball Falls to Jones in the Region 23 Tourney

The East Central Community College women’s basketball team held the MACJC state champions, No. 14 nationally ranked Jones County Junior College, close for most of the game before falling 96-70 in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament Tuesday, March 7, on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton.

ECCC only trailed Jones 20-15 after the first quarter and were able to take the lead when Shantavis Hughes of Hattiesburg High School sank a long three-pointer to go up 22-21 with 6:29 left in the first half.

ECCC’s Oswalt Earns Second National Softball Pitcher of Week Honor

For the second time this month, East Central Community College freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Oswalt is the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Softball Pitcher of the Week and the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges Pitcher of the Week. She was honored for her work in the softball circle for Feb. 20-27.
