ECCC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Teams Sweep Meridian

The East Central Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams picked up big conference match wins over visiting Meridian Community College Thursday, March 5, at the Tennis Complex on the campus in Decatur.

The No. 20 East Central Lady Warriors defeated the No. 23 Meridian Lady Eagles 5-4, while the Warriors defeated Meridian 7-2.

The matches originally began on Feb. 4, but were suspended at that time due to weather.

The ECCC Lady Warriors are now 7-3 on the season and the Warriors are 6-4.

ECCC Men’s Tennis Defeats Gadsden State 5-4

The No. 20 ranked East Central Community College men’s tennis team stepped out of conference to defeat Gadsden State (Ala.) 5-4 in a match played Saturday, Feb. 29, at the ECCC Tennis Complex on campus.

With the win, the Warriors improve to 4-4. The No. 25 ranked Gadsden State Cardinals are 0-4.

“We survived against a Gadsden State team that fought us tooth and nail,” said ECCC head tennis coach Jay Pacelli. “Our top two doubles teams bounced back today after tough loses at Jones yesterday.”

ECCC Tennis Teams Get Road Sweep Over MACJC Foe Itawamba

The No. 21 ranked East Central Community College men’s tennis team avenged a season-opening loss to Itawamba with a 5-4 win, while the No. 20 ECCC Lady Warriors defeated the Itawamba Lady Indians 7-2 for the second time this season in matches played Friday, Feb. 21, on the ICC campus in Fulton.

With the win, the Lady Warriors are now 4-2 on the season and the Warriors are 2-3. The Itawamba men are now 3-3, while the Lady Indians are 0-5.

The two teams opened the season back on Jan. 31 with matches on the ECCC campus.

ECCC Women’s Tennis Beats Visiting Snead State 8-1

The East Central Community College women’s tennis team stepped out of the conference to host Snead State Saturday, Feb. 15, and defeated the visitors from Boaz, Ala., 8-1.

The match was played at the ECCC Tennis Complex on the campus in Decatur.

With the win, the No. 20 ranked Lady Warriors improve to 3-2 on the season. The Snead State Lady Parsons are 0-6.

“It was a team win with solid play throughout the lineup,” commented ECCC Head Tennis Coach Jay Pacelli.

ECCC Tennis Falls Second Consecutive Day to Nationally Ranked Opponents

For the second consecutive day, the nationally ranked East Central Community College tennis teams found themselves on the courts with two other nationally ranked teams. This time it was Marion Military Institute, and the hosts of Marion, Ala., grabbed a pair of victories Saturday, Feb. 9.

The No. 14 Marion women picked up an 8-1 win over the No. 20 Lady Warriors, while the No. 13 Marion Tigers won 6-3 over the No. 21 East Central men.

ECCC Tennis Teams Fall at Home to Gulf Coast

Four nationally ranked tennis teams squared off on the East Central Community College campus in Decatur Friday, Feb. 10, with the teams from Gulf Coast coming out victorious in both matches.

The No. 18 Gulf Coast women defeated the No. 20 ECCC Lady Warriors 6-3, while the No. 19 Gulf Coast men won 7-2 over the No. 21 East Central men.

With the losses, the Lady Warriors are 1-1 on the season and the Warriors are 0-2. It was the season opener for both Gulf Coast teams.
