Seeking a dry diamond to play ball on, the East Central Community College Lady Warriors traveled to Fultondale, Ala., Friday, March 1, and came home with a couple of softball wins in the Fultondale Friendly Tournament.

For the second time in two weeks, the East Central Community College tennis teams swept Southwest Mississippi Community College in matches played Friday, March 1, at the ECCC Tennis Complex on the campus in Decatur.

The East Central Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams both earned invitations to the 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 Tournament to be played March 5-9 at A.E. Wood Coliseum on the Mississippi College campus in Clinton.

The East Central Community College tennis teams hosted Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in matches Thursday, Feb. 28, with the Lady Warriors picking up a 6-3 win, and the Warriors dropping a 7-2 match to the visitors from Perkinston.

The ECCC Lady Warriors improved to 4-3 on the season, while the men fell to 4-3.

The East Central Community College Lady Warriors dropped a softball doubleheader to Hinds Community College in games played Wednesday, Feb, 27, at Rene Warren Field on the Hinds campus in Raymond.

The Hinds Lady Eagles won the opener 3-2 and then picked up a 10-3 win in the second game shortened due to lightning.

East Central falls to 3-4 on the season, while Hinds improves to 7-3. The games do not count in the MACJC league standings. The two teams will meet again April 24 in a doubleheader on the ECCC campus in Decatur.

The East Central Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams fell to the nationally ranked Meridian Community College teams in matches played Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Northeast Tennis Center in Meridian.

The Meridian men defeated East Central 8-1, while the Meridian women were victorious over the East Central women 7-2.

The Meridian Eagles are ranked No. 20 in the latest Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association NJCAA Top 25, while the Meridian Lady Eagles are No. 23.

After winning five straight games just to get into the 2019 MACJC State Basketball Tournament, the East Central Community College Warriors ran out of steam in the first round dropping a 70-53 decision the North Division No. 1 Seeded East Mississippi Lions Tuesday, Feb. 26, in Ellisville.

This year’s tournament is being played at A.B. Howard Gymnasium on the Jones College campus.

Freshman catcher Anna McNeer hit a pair of home runs and drove in six runs to help the East Central Community College softball team split a pair of games Monday, Feb. 25, in Ellisville.

The ECCC Lady Warriors scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and five more in the sixth to run-rule the East Mississippi Lady Lions 12-4 in the nightcap, bouncing back from a 17-7 loss earlier in the day to the No. 1 ranked and defending national champion Jones College Lady Bobcats.

After having rain force the cancellation of its own Rush Invitational Baseball Tournament, the East Central Community College Warriors traveled to south Alabama to pick up a pair of Saturday games, losing a 6-0 decision to Wallace Community College-Dothan and holding on for an 8-7 win over Lurleen B. Wallace Community College.

The two games were played Saturday, Feb. 23, on the campus of Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Andalusia, Ala.

A heartbreaking, last-second loss to No. 9 Pearl River back on Feb. 4 left the East Central Community College Warriors with a 1-8 record in the MACJC South Division and little chance of qualifying for postseason play and a trip to the state basketball tournament.

The Warriors could ill afford another loss if they had any hopes of advancing to the postseason after a one-year absence.
