The East Central Community College Warriors traveled south to Chalmette, La., to open the 2019 baseball season Wednesday, Feb. 13, and came home to Decatur with a doubleheader split with the NJCAA Division I Nunez Community College Pelicans.

The games were played at the Noel Suarez Stadium at Chalmette High School.

East Central won the opener 6-2, before falling to the Pelicans in the nightcap 6-3.

With the split, the Warriors open the season 1-1. Nunez is 4-3.

The East Central Community College tennis teams picked up a pair of 9-0 road wins over the teams from Holmes Community College in matches played Wednesday, Feb. 13, in Goodman.

With the shutout wins, the ECCC men are now 3-1 on the season, while the Lady Warriors improved to 2-2.

“Our women needed this win,” said ECCC head coach Jay Pacelli. “I’m counting on this to be the start of good things to come. It was also nice to see our talented first-year players get victories.”

East Central Community College will host its 17th annual Business, Education, & Healthcare Expo from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, in Brackeen-Wood Gym on the Decatur campus.

Vendors interested in setting up a booth at the expo should contact Linda Vance at 601-635-6210 or lvance@eccc.edu. The deadline to register is March 29 and the cost is $15 per vendor.

East Central Community College will hold workshops and/or auditions this spring for 2019-20 performing arts groups, including the Drum Line, Color Guard, Centralettes dance line, and Drum Major.

Drum Line auditions will be accepted by video submission only and are due by Thursday, February 28. Requirements can be found at www.eccc.edu/eccc-wall-o-sound.

East Central Community College in Decatur has announced that season tickets are now on sale for all 2019 regular season home baseball and softball doubleheaders.

Season tickets to the 13 home baseball doubleheaders in the Clark/Gay Baseball Complex this spring are $45 for general admission or $100 for reserved chairback seats. Each season ticket admits one person per doubleheader. General admission single game tickets are $7 for those ages 18 and older.

The East Central Community College men’s tennis team picked up a 9-0 shutout road win over the Copiah-Lincoln Wolves Saturday, Feb. 9, in Wesson. The ECCC women fell 8-1 to the Co-Lin Lady Wolves

The ECCC men are now 2-1 on the young season, while the Lady Warriors fell to 1-2.

“It was a good win against an undermanned Co-Lin men’s team,” said ECCC head coach Jay Pacelli. “The men took care of business. On the women’s side, I’m looking for improved play when we face Holmes next week. The women are struggling at the moment.”
