Jay Pacelli enters his fourth spring as East Central Community College’s tennis coach with high expectations for both his men’s and women’s teams as the 2019 season gets underway Feb. 1 in Marion, Ala., against Marion Military Institute.

Pacelli’s men’s team will be 10-deep this spring with a lot to prove after a disappointing 2018 season.

A last-second jumper by Jones College’s Winceton Edwards sent the game to overtime and the Bobcats would eventually pull out a 71-69 win over the East Central Community College Warriors in basketball action Thursday, Jan. 17, in A.B. Howard Gymnasium in Ellisville. The No. 8 ranked Jones Lady Bobcats scored an 84-56 win over the ECCC Lady Warriors in the first game of the evening.

With the loss, the ECCC Warriors fell to 7-6 overall on the season in 0-4 in MACJC South Division play. Jones improved to 7-4 and 3-1.

Guitar instructor Chas Evans, who also serves as chair of the Division of Fine Arts, was recently selected East Central Community College’s “Humanities Instructor of the Year” and will be recognized Tuesday, March 12, 2019, on the Decatur campus.

High school seniors who enter a federally-recognized branch of military service immediately following high school graduation may now receive scholastic-based scholarships for which they qualify at East Central Community College in Decatur thanks to a recent change in policy recommended by college administration and approved by the college’s Board of Trustees.

All students at high schools in Winston County are invited to a special “Be Our Guest” night when the East Central Community College women’s and men’s basketball teams face Jones College on Monday, Feb. 11, in Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium on the ECCC campus in Decatur.

The East Central Lady Warriors will battle the Jones Lady Bobcats at 5:30 p.m., followed by the ECCC Warriors and the Jones Bobcats at 7:30 p.m.

The East Central Community College basketball programs are hosting the annual MLK Classic Saturday, Jan. 19, to commemorate the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.

The MLK Classic will be held in Brackeen-Wood Gym on the Decatur campus. Admission is $8 per person.
