The Mississippi Works Career-Technical Scholarship program has available scholarship opportunities for qualified East Central Community College students who are enrolled in approved degree programs for the 2019-20 term.

To be eligible for the Mississippi Works Career-Technical Scholarships, students must be a legal resident of Mississippi, admitted to an approved Mississippi Works Career-Technical Scholars program, apply for and accept all offers for all available federal and state financial aid, and be a full-time student.

The East Central Community College Workforce Development Center will offer “Technology for Teachers: Google Classroom,” beginning Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2019 at the Philadelphia/Neshoba County Career-Technical Center, located at 900 Valley View Drive in Philadelphia.

The class will meet from 4 to 7 p.m. for 10 consecutive Tuesday nights. Lacie Flake will serve as instructor. The cost is $60 per person.

The public is invited to East Central Community College’s annual “Meet the Warriors” preseason pep rally scheduled for Monday, Aug. 26.

The East Central Community College Small Business Development Center will offer a free seminar on “First Steps-The Process of Starting a Small Business” from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, August 12, 2019, in the Workforce Development Center, located at 52 9th Street on the ECCC campus in Decatur.

This seminar will include basic steps in starting your own business. Topics will include licenses and permits, legal forms of ownership, basic marketing concepts, lending terminology and outlining a business plan.

Longtime Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges and state championship-winning coach Leigh White is the new head softball coach at East Central Community College.

The East Central Community College tennis program is hosting its third Woods and Whites Doubles Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Tennis Complex on the ECCC campus in Decatur.

The Woods and Whites event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $25 per player, payable at the event. All proceeds support the ECCC men’s and women’s tennis programs and facilities.

Both the East Central Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams along with five players from each team have been recognized for academic success by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.20 or above.

The ECCC tennis teams were one of only 10 men’s and 10 women’s community and junior college teams in the nation recognized with the team award.

Andrew Weir, a May 2019 graduate of East Central Community College, has been selected to participate in the undergraduate portion of the Mississippi Rural Dentists Scholarship Program (MRDSP).

A native of Newton and graduate of Newton County High School, Weir is currently a junior at Mississippi College. He is the son of Sam and Karla Weir of Newton.

East Central Community College will host two Preview Days in August for dual credit high school students.

The Preview Days, designed to introduce the high school students to ECCC and college life, will be Thursday, Aug. 1, and Friday, Aug. 2, on the campus in Decatur. Dual credit students who are already registered for the dual credit classes can come and go anytime between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on either day. Both events will be held at the Smith Student Union Building.
