The East Central Community College soccer teams picked up a pair of impressive non-division soccer wins Friday, Aug. 30, against the Southwest Mississippi teams in matches played in Summit.

The East Central women remained perfect on the season with a 5-0 shutout of the Southwest Lady Bears. The ECCC Warriors followed with a 3-1 win over the Bears.

The ECCC Lady Warriors are now 2-0 on the season, while the Warriors improved to 2-1 with their second straight win.

The East Central Community College Warriors traveled to Cuthbert, Ga., for a rare out-of-state soccer match Aug. 27 and brought home a 3-2 win over the Andrew College Fighting Tigers.

The Warriors moved to 1-1 on the season with the win. Andrew College fell to 0-1.

The Newton County High School Cougar Pride Marching Band and Blue Stars Dance Team will perform and one lucky student will get a chance to win an Achievement Recognition Scholarship for the fall 2020 semester as East Central Community College hosts its annual “Be Our Guest” night Thursday, Sept. 19.

East Central Community College sophomore Caleb Collins of Clinton is one of 207 Phi Theta Kappa members named a 2019 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar and will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Collins is an engineering major and a graduate of Clinton High School.

The preseason has come to a close and the East Central Community College soccer teams are ready to jump into the 2019 regular season after hosting the Meridian Community College teams in a couple of exhibition matches Friday, Aug. 16.

The ECCC Lady Warriors and Meridian Lady Eagles battled to a 0-0 tie in the opening match in Bailey Stadium on the East Central campus in Decatur.

U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi will be among those helping East Central Community College and its partners celebrate the college’s new Diesel Equipment Technology program and new facility during ceremonies Friday, Aug. 23, at the former U.S. Motors Plant site in Philadelphia.

The public is invited to the 10 a.m. dedication at the ECCC Diesel Equipment Technology program facility located at 1250 Pecan Avenue in Philadelphia.
