Second Half Comeback Gives East Central Warriors Win Over Coahoma

A second half comeback gave the East Central Community College men’s basketball a hard fought 74-66 win over the Coahoma Community College Tigers Monday, Nov. 14, in Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium in Decatur.

The Warriors trailed by a dozen at the half, but outscored the Tigers by 20 in points the second half to pull off the comeback win.

ECCC Lady Warriors Win High-Scoring Basketball Contest Against Coahoma

The East Central Community College Lady Warriors had three players score 20 or more points en route to a high-scoring 104-97 victory against Coahoma Community College Monday, Nov. 14, in Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium on the Decatur campus.

Freshman forward Autumn Taylor of Newton High School had 23 points and brought down 13 rebounds. Freshman guard Khelsea Foster of Arcadia (La.) High School was the leading scorer for ECCC with 25 points. Laneisha Jeans of Pine Forest (Fla.) High School added 20 points for the Lady Warriors.

ECCC Hosts Annual Fine Arts Christmas Spectacular Nov. 29

The East Central Community College Fine Arts Department will present its annual Fine Arts Christmas Spectacular at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, in Huff Auditorium on the Decatur campus.

The presentation is being held as part of the college’s Cultural Arts Series. Tickets are $10 per person. A reception will follow the performances in the Gold Room of Mabry Cafeteria.

East Central Women’s Basketball Defeats Rival EMCC 66-65

The East Central Community College Lady Warriors squeaked out a one-point win, 66-65, over the visiting East Mississippi Community College Lady Lions Thursday, Nov. 10, in Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium on the Decatur campus.

The Lady Warriors held a 15-point advantage going into the fourth quarter, 55-40, but EMCC was able to close to within one point in the closing seconds of the contest.

Sophomore Shadejha Brown of Lake High School hit a pair of last second free throws to secure the win for East Central.

ECCC’s New Warrior Walking Club to Hold Kickoff Event Nov. 17

The East Central Community College Warrior Walking Club will hold a kickoff event Thursday, Nov. 17, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Dick Livingston Recreational/Study Trail near the EC Lake on the Decatur campus.

The Warrior Walking Club was implemented in October thanks to a grant from the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation to support the college’s Warrior Wellness initiative that is helping to create and sustain a culture of wellness on the East Central campuses and in the local communities.

Team Unity, Depth are Keys to East Central Men’s Basketball Season

If the East Central Community College men’s basketball team is to return to the state playoffs after a year’s absence, it’s going to be because of quality depth and team unity.

Along with a lot of new faces.

Head Coach Robert Thompson enters his fourth season at the helm of the Warrior basketball program with a dozen new players, all freshmen. Gone are all five starters and the top reserve from last year’s team, which finished just short of making the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges state playoffs.
