The East Central Community College Diamond Warriors split a pair of games over the weekend in the Rush Invitational held at the Clark/Gay Baseball Complex in Decatur.

The Warriors beat Tyler Junior College (Texas) 14-8 on Saturday, Feb. 25, before falling to Baton Rouge Community College 6-3 that evening.

East Central Community College in Decatur ranks among the top 100 community and junior colleges in the nation in conferring degrees to minorities in three different academic areas according to recent data released by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.

A two-out, bottom of the ninth three-run home run by Brittney McCray gave the East Central Community College Lady Warriors a dramatic 8-6 come from behind win over the upset-minded Coastal Alabama-Brewton Lady Warhawks in the second game of a doubleheader Sunday, Feb. 26, at the Softball Park in Decatur.

The East Central Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams went on the road Friday, Feb. 24, and played two matches each in the same afternoon and came home with a 3-1 record from the trip.

The East Central Community College Lady Warrior basketball team fell 81-78 in a heartbreaker against the Hinds Community College Lady Bulldogs Thursday, Feb. 23, in a packed out Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium on “Sophomore Night” in Decatur.

ECCC jumped out to an early lead in the first half, going up by as many as 13 points in the second quarter, but a Hinds’ rally gave the Lady Bulldogs a 43-42 lead at the intermission.

Behind the strong pitching of two freshmen, the No. 12 East Central Community College Lady Warriors swept a doubleheader from Marion Military Institute 7-0 and 4-1 in softball action Thursday, Feb. 23, in Marion, Ala.

With the wins, East Central improved to a perfect 10-0 on the season. Marion Military fell to 8-12.

The two teams met earlier this month in Decatur with East Central winning both games.

The East Central Community College men’s basketball team won a 122-119 double overtime thriller over Hinds Community College on “Sophomore Night” in Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium Thursday, Feb. 23.

The Warrior basketball team earned an NJCAA Region 23 Tournament berth with the win over the Bulldogs.

ECCC started out slow in the first half, trailing Hinds 51-42 at the intermission.

East Central Community College will host “An Evening with C.S. Lewis,” as portrayed by British actor David Payne, at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, in Huff Auditorium on the Decatur campus.

The public is invited and there is no admission to this event.

East Central Community College freshman Cole Gray has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

A right-handed pitcher who prepped at Lamar School in Meridian, Gray was also named the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 13-19.

The No. 8 ranked East Central Community College Diamond Warriors moved to 5-1 on the season overall after beating Bossier Parish Community College of Louisiana 6-2 and falling to No. 17 Hinds Community College 6-5 on Wednesday, Feb. 22, in Raymond.

In game one against Hinds, the contest was tied 5-5 with Hinds batting in the bottom of the seventh when freshman right-handed pitcher Kolby Crowley of Winston Academy walked a Hinds batter to score the winning run.
