East Central Community College in Decatur has been designated as a Military Friendly® School by Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs®, STEM Jobs, and Military Spouse magazines. It is the fifth consecutive year that ECCC has earned the Military Friendly® School designation.

ECCC is one of only five community colleges in Mississippi to earn the Military Friendly® designation for 2017.

December 4, 2016

Eleven members of the 2016 East Central Community College Warrior football team received postseason honors from the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges and the National Junior College Athletic Association. In addition, for the second year in a row Head Coach Ken Karcher was selected as the MACJC South Division Coach of the Year.

Four Warriors were named MACJC First Team All-State and seven were named MACJC Second Team All-State. One was included on the NJCAA All-Region 23 Team.

In accordance with Mississippi House Bill No. 1071 from the 2010 legislative session, East Central Community College in Decatur has released its 2015 Community College Performance Profile, or Report Card. The bill created an Education Achievement Council which was established to set education achievement goals for institutions of higher learning and community and junior colleges in the state and to assist in monitoring progress towards those goals through the preparation of annual institutional and state report cards.

The East Central Community College men’s basketball team defeated Wallace Community College-Selma out of Alabama 87-71 in the EC Classic held in Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium in Decatur Nov. 22.

The Warriors led the Patriots 35-28 at the intermission, and held on to the lead for the win.

The East Central Lady Warriors eclipsed the 100 point total twice over the Thanksgiving holidays defeating Louisiana State University Eunice 108-87 and Wallace Community College-Selma out of Alabama 107-64 in the EC Classic held in Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium in Decatur Nov. 21-22.

The Lady Warriors have scored 100 or more points in three straight basketball games.

In the LSU Eunice matchup, freshman forward Autumn Taylor of Newton High School led all scorers with 23 points and also had six steals.

Four East Central Community College baseball players signed National Letters of Intent for the November signing period to continue their baseball careers at four-year colleges and universities.

“We are very proud of all four of these young men as they continue their education and baseball careers,” said Head Baseball Coach Neal Holliman. “They have all been great representatives of our college and will be major contributors for us this upcoming season.”

East Central Community College invites area residents to get into the Christmas spirit by attending the second annual Warrior Wonderland Friday, Dec. 2, on the campus in Decatur.

The special celebration of Christmas will begin immediately following the Decatur Christmas Parade, about 6:30 p.m., and conclude by 8:30 p.m.

Warrior Wonderland will kick off with a fireworks display, followed by a ceremony to light the East Central Christmas tree on the front lawn of campus near the Vincent Administration Building.

A second half comeback gave the East Central Community College men’s basketball a hard fought 74-66 win over the Coahoma Community College Tigers Monday, Nov. 14, in Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium in Decatur.

The Warriors trailed by a dozen at the half, but outscored the Tigers by 20 in points the second half to pull off the comeback win.

The East Central Community College Lady Warriors had three players score 20 or more points en route to a high-scoring 104-97 victory against Coahoma Community College Monday, Nov. 14, in Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium on the Decatur campus.

Freshman forward Autumn Taylor of Newton High School had 23 points and brought down 13 rebounds. Freshman guard Khelsea Foster of Arcadia (La.) High School was the leading scorer for ECCC with 25 points. Laneisha Jeans of Pine Forest (Fla.) High School added 20 points for the Lady Warriors.
