The East Central Community College women’s soccer team moved to 11-2 on the season and 5-1 in the North Division with an 8-0 victory over the Northwest Mississippi Community College Lady Rangers Friday, Oct. 7, at the ECCC Soccer Complex.

Sophomore forward Kenzie Jenkins of McLaurin High School began the scoring for East Central in the first half, with an assist by TaNissa McNair of Forest High School.

The East Central Community College football team took over sole possession of first place in the MACJC South Division after beating nationally ranked No. 8 Jones County Junior County 37-24 Thursday, Oct. 6, in Bailey Stadium on the Decatur campus.

A hat trick by sophomore midfielder Fredy Gutierrez powered the East Central Community College men’s soccer team to its fourth straight win, a 4-2 MACJC North Division victory over Itawamba Community College in a match played Oct. 5 in Fulton.

A goal by freshman forward Sierra Maness with one minute to play sent the match into overtime before Itawamba Community College scored the golden goal in the second extra period to win a MACJC North Division soccer match against East Central Community College Oct. 5 in Fulton.

East Central Community College sophomore midfielder Fredy Gutierrez has been named the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges Men's Soccer Offensive of the Week for the week of Sept. 26- Oct.2.

Gutierrez, a product of Ponotoc High School, had six shots on goal, three goals and one assist in a 1-0 East Central victory over Meridian Community College and a 1-0 win Jones County College.

The East Central men's soccer team, coached by Kenneth Thompson, is 6-6 on the season and 2-2 in the MACJC North Division.

Ovid Vickers, retired East Central Community College English instructor and longtime weekly newspaper columnist, will release his second book, “Notes in the Margin: A Collection of Columns About East Central Community College,” during the college’s annual Homecoming festivities scheduled Saturday, Oct. 15.

Additional classes at four locations have been added to the fall semester offerings by the East Central Community College Workforce Development Center.

The East Central Community College men’s soccer team was seconds away from heading into overtime against Jones County Junior College Friday, Sept. 30, in Ellisville, but a goal by freshman Jacob Thomas brought home an East Central win.

The match remained scoreless until 19 seconds to play.

Midfielder Thomas of Northwest Rankin High School scored off an assist by Tomaz McNair of Forest High School for the 1-0 victory.

The East Central Community College women’s soccer team fell to No. 11 nationally ranked Jones County Junior College 5-0 Friday, Sept. 30, in Ellisville and went on to beat Jacksonville College of Jacksonville, Texas 3-1 Saturday, Oct. 1, in Perkinston.

In the matchup with Jacksonville, the Panthers jumped on the board first before Warrior freshman Sierra Maness of Corinth High School tied up the match with 32 minutes left in the first half.
