East Central Community College continues its Cultural Arts Series with a presentation by visual artist LeeReyna Lopez Leyva at 2:25 p.m. Thursday, March 10, in the Vickers Fine Arts Center on the Decatur campus.
The East Central Community College Diamond Warriors swept National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Lawson State Community College out of Birmingham, Ala., 9-8 and 10-1 on Monday, Feb. 29, in Decatur.
The Diamond Warriors’ overall record improved to 10-4. Lawson State’s record dropped to 7-4.
In the close game-one matchup, ECCC had to overcome an 8-4 Lawson State lead with five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 9-8 win.
East Central Community College’s Small Business Development Center will offer a free seminar on “Starting a Business-First Steps” from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at the Carthage Career Advancement Center.
The seminar outlines the basic steps to start a business. Topics include regulations such as licenses and permits, legal forms of business ownership, basic marketing concepts to help analyze the revenue potential, lending terminology, outline for a business plan and other resources to assist in starting a business.

The East Central Community College Lady Warrior basketball team won its first Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges State Championship in a dozen years Thursday night, Feb. 25, with a 75-63 win over the Itawamba Community College Lady Indians at the Davis Event Center on the Itawamba campus in Fulton.
East Central Community College in Decatur will hold tryouts for the 2015-16 Cheerleading Squad at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016 in the South Campus Gymnasium. There is a non-refundable $25 fee for all participants.
Pre-tryout clinics will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. March 29-31. During these sessions, participants will learn the cheer, fight song routine and stunts necessary for tryouts. Those wishing to tryout must attend at least one clinic.
Those selected for the squad receive full-tuition scholarships.

The No 15 East Central Community College Warriors turned three first quarter turnovers into points to build an early lead and set the pace in a 35-21 victory today over the No. 20 Kilgore College Rangers in the 2015 C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl.
The game was played in the 10,000-seat Bulldawg Stadium in Copperas Cove, Texas.
East Central turned an interception and two fumbles into touchdowns in the first quarter to race to a 21-0 lead.

All five current Distinguished Young Women from the East Central Community College district are attending the college this academic year.
Dr. Randall Lee, vice president for student services at ECCC, said being able to attract top students such as those who are Distinguished Young Women is a testament to the college’s outstanding academic programs.
